Premier online training provider to offer various college and workforce preparedness courses with support from digital workspace solutions leader.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida—iTrainNow Teen Academy today announced that it is amping up its efforts to prepare the workforce of the future. Through a grant by Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), the premier online training provider will expand its Career Jump Start program to enable 400 students with the skills they need to succeed in college and life.

Did you know 1 out of 3 college freshmen do not return for their sophomore year? A recent article by the Washington Post reports 40 percent of college students will never walk down the aisle to receive their diploma. This revolving door of excited high school graduates, who turn into embittered freshmen in just 12 months, leaves behind a trail of disappointment and a mountain of debt.

Dr. Shirley Sims has the solution. Sims, the founder of iTrainNow Teen Academy, knows teens need a head start to transition into college and workforce life. The year-round virtual program teaches students college and employable life skills. Through this series of hands-on workshops, teens (ages 13-19) learn how to apply for college, prepare for a job interview, take courses in business, technology, interpersonal skill development, and network with industry professionals.
According to a recent Peterson’s report, students list the high cost of education, family issues, and lack of preparation for the rigors of college life as top reasons for low retention rates.

Dr. Sims can turn these staggering dropout numbers around with the iTrainNow Teen Academy. Teens enrolled in iTrainNow are taught coping skills to manage the stress of college life. In the program, Sims’ straight talk approach offers financial planning workshops to teach teenagers personal accountability before they take on college loans or make other financial decisions.

Dr. Sims is a sought-after advisor who knows that students need more than just a dream; they need adequate tools for future success. Sims’ goal as an educator and life strategist is, “to provide an open platform for teens to ask questions and learn new skills to help them in their future.” As a mother of a precocious teen, Dr. Sims says she knows, “The youth are tomorrow’s leaders,” and she is “preparing tomorrow’s leaders for career readiness.” Through the iTrainNow Teen Academy, Dr. Sims believes teens have “an opportunity to learn about options beyond high school, and skills to help them secure employment.”
